At La Hacienda Links Golf Resort, we believe that true sporting excellence is only achieved when the place that makes it possible is respected and protected. Therefore, sustainability is an essential part of our daily operations, from our Links and Heathland courses to every facility, process and decision made at the resort.
Our commitment is based on five fundamental pillars: water, energy, biodiversity, materials and community, with measurable results year after year and a clear vision: to promote a more efficient, regenerative golf model aligned with the unique environment that surrounds us on the Costa del Sol.

ENVIRONMENTAL INITIATIVES
EFFICIENT WATER MANAGEMENT
Water is our most valuable resource. That’s why we’ve implemented Rain Bird’s CirrusPRO™ software, which allows us to monitor and adjust more than 1,200 sprinklers in real time from any mobile device. This system adapts the exact amount of irrigation to the conditions of each area and time of day, reducing consumption by around 20 per cent annually.
The recent complete renovation of the pumping station incorporates multistage pumps with variable frequency drives, which optimises energy performance and enables intelligent remote management. This shortens irrigation time, improves electrical efficiency and strengthens system reliability.
In parallel, the elimination of five hectares of irrigated land in non-critical areas – replaced by 200,000 mastic trees (Pistacia lentiscus) – reinforces a strategy based on “less water, more nature.”
ENERGY AND DECARBONISATION
We are moving towards a low-carbon operation. The modernisation of the pumping station, along with the use of hybrid machinery with electric cutting units, has significantly reduced energy consumption and daily emissions during maintenance.
We completed this transition with solar panels installed in the resort’s parking lot, which provide clean, renewable energy for the club’s operations, resulting in corresponding electricity savings.
BIODIVERSITY AND MEDITERRANEAN LANDSCAPE
Our landscape is an essential part of the playing experience. We replaced unplayable surfaces with naturalised areas that promote local biodiversity and improve the ecological resilience of the environment.
Mastic tree plantings help stabilise the soil, prevent erosion and provide shelter for birds and pollinating insects, while Bermuda grass on the greens reduces water and chemical stress without compromising playability. The result: a more authentic, more sustainable course which is more in harmony with the natural coastal environment.
MATERIALS, WASTE AND CIRCULAR ECONOMY
We are progressively eliminating single-use plastics by providing filtered water fountains for players, located on the courses, in the clubhouse and in the halfway house.
Furthermore, all new construction and renovations at the resort incorporate sustainable, highly durable and low-environmental-impact materials, promoting a circular economy in every project, such as those used in new halfway house.
COLLABORATIONS AND RECOGNITION
Our golf resort’s commitment to sustainability is supported by a network of strategic partners and industry experts. Together with Rain Bird, Acttua and specialists in agronomy and water management, we implement technological solutions that optimise the use of water, energy and natural resources at the resort.
Our 2025-2028 Sustainability Plan defines a clear roadmap toward a more responsible golf model: consolidating water conservation, expanding the naturalisation of non-playable areas, increasing photovoltaic generation and moving toward a 100 per cent electric fleet. The plan also promotes comprehensive waste management and material traceability, among other initiatives.
At the same time, we are working to obtain international certifications that validate our best practices and reinforce the resort’s leadership in sustainable golf. Every step we take reaffirms our commitment to a golf model that respects the environment and contributes to a more sustainable future for all.
